The Evolution of Democracy: Understanding its roots and protecting its future in a digital world

A scientific approach on and role plays about democracy leading to the creation of your own simulation activity and potentially a conceptualization of a follow-up-conference.

The workshop included presentations, a scientific approach, and a site visit in Berlin. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to apply their knowledge through role play and simulation activities. This even led to the creation of a simulation, with the final outcome depending on their input.
The workshop was particularly interesting for those with experience or a background in democratically structured organizations (e.g., youth councils, NGOs, media, etc.) or any other form of civil society organization.

Results:

1- Fighting Disinformation During Elections

 This group developed a concept for a platform called EULECT, designed to combat disinformation during EU election periods. EULECT would serve as a centralized, reliable source of verified information on political parties and candidates, helping voters navigate confusing or misleading narratives and make informed choices.

2- Promoting Digital Literacy

The second group proposed a national digital literacy campaign targeting two age groups: children aged 8–13 and teens aged 13–18. The initiative would teach younger children about online safety and provide educational resources for parents. The older group would receive additional training in critical thinking, helping them identify and resist disinformation, navigate the digital world with confidence, and avoid the mental health risks associated with online environments.

3- Combating Gender-Based Digital Violence Against Activists and Politicians

This group focused on gendered digital violence, especially targeting activists and political figures. They proposed a campaign to raise awareness about online harassment and threats, alongside the creation of a support and reporting system to empower victims and respond to incidents effectively.
